'In Search of Robert Millar' - by Richard Moore
Miller was a true British hero. A superb
climber crowned the 1984 King of the Mountains in the Tour De
France, he had the makings of a 'superstar' however his attitude and
appearence was unconventional to say the least with his malnourished
look and tiny stud in his ear, he avioded the lime-light and came
across as a loner who seemingly enjoyed his own company. Millar refused
to co-operate with Moore so the book was compiled through interviews
with friends, acquaintances and ex-cycling colleages and shows a true
eccentric who escaped Scotland ('I will never live there, it always
rains...'), had a long and successful career, married, worked for the
BCF only to disappear and surface again, fueling rumours of a possible
sex-change. A fascinating and absorbing read.
